12 Jul Corporate Event Planning: World’s Best Job
We’ve all said it to that co-worker who tried to step away from the corporate event planning industry, “You’ll be back. You can never escape.” Daunting words, we know. But, in essence, it’s true. People who enter event planning rarely leave event planning. Why? Well, for starters, the hospitality industry is social, and it values relationships. Most of us have long professional histories together. Heck, we’ve even worked with some of our competitors and clients at one time or another. Additionally, the event planning industry has upped its game, and that’s kept us interested. Companies saw an urgent need to centralize sourcing and manage spend, and that forced companies like TPG to offer higher levels of service. Fortunately, the industry responded with top-notch contract seminars that explained the importance of minimized exposure and maximized spend. Another change came when marketing departments recognized events as marketing assets.
While business-minded event planners find the industry’s newfound sophistication exciting, there has always been the exhilaration of travel. Most of us in the events industry will board a plane to wherever, whenever. We go around discussing airline status and the number of countries we’ve visited. Several of us can manage at least “hello” and “thank you” in a handful of languages. We’re the type who likes to hop on the phone with Bali at 5 pm to negotiate audio visual pricing. Because, let’s face it…its global… and its cool.
Finally, no matter how challenging a program, the events industry is just plain fun. Corporate events are live happenings that come together after months of hard work. They’re creative, dynamic, and there’s a sense of excitement on arrival day that can’t be replicated. At TPG, we create once-in-a-lifetime experiences that individuals can’t re-create on their own. We take our clients to one-of-a-kind hotels and resorts in one-of-a-kind locations. At the end of the day, our clients expect the best and that’s what we deliver. Pride in our work is what keeps us loving what we do. That, and hanging with Queen Latifah at the bar inside a luxury resort.
